I honestly didn't know a thing about adoption several years ago. My husband and I were truly blessed with two wonderful children (a girl and a boy ages 11 and 8), but knew our hearts were aching for "just one more". After much thought and prayer, God showed us a path -- one that we never thought we'd be on -- a path of adoption. Taking this path was quite a "leap of faith" for us -- a leap that we likely never could have make without the help of so many wonderful people who shared their stories with us. These stories showed us we weren't alone, and gave us the confidence that while it might be a long and difficult journey, others had made it and, with God's help, so could we. Of course, the best part of the journey was bringing home our new son, who you see on the first day we met him in the picture (right). While we were filled with joy, we couldn’t help but think about all the children who were left behind, and all the other people who were longing for a child. We knew then we wanted to do something to help.
While being a mom for three and a parttime office manager for a heating and air conditioning company would normally be more than enough, I’ve decided to also try to see what I can do to help others experience the joy that I’ve felt through adoption, and to help others as so many have helped my husband and I through our adoption journey. I have to admit I’m wondering if I’m crazy. Anyway, I’ve taken the “leap” to make the adoption book project and the “Thinking of Adopting.com” website a reality. I honestly don’t know where it will end up, but I know that I do want to to help more children find their “forever families” by helping those who are longing for child make the decision to adopt. While I will be forever indebted to Inna Pecar and the wonderful people at Kids First Adoption Services without whom we would have never brought our new son home, my dream for Thinking of Adopting is not to become an adoption agency, but to provide people with the information they need to make their decision to adopt. I believe in my heart that the more people know about adoption, the more people will decide to take the “leap of faith” and begin their adoption journey. Once they do, one more child will find their “forever family.”
